State Club and Nutcracker

Last night mom and I ate at the State club and then went to see the Nutcracker. The dinner was a buffet in the main room. I am still hoping to be able to eat in their real restaurant sometime! I loved the Nutcracker! I love ballet so much and we had 3rd row seats in Memorial Auditorium.

Cantina 18

Last night Dad, Addison and I went to Cantina 18 in Cameron Village. It was delicious and reminded me of Tin Lizzies in Atlanta. We decided to share the 3 taco platter and each pick our own taco. Addison had the shrimp, dad had chicken, and I had the vegetable taco. I should know better by now that I don't really like veggie tacos, but it was okay. We also shared guacamole and an order of calamari. The tacos came with black beans, rice, and shredded vinegary cabbage that was enough for all of us to share. It was really good. I also liked the sour cream that came with the calamari, it had lime in it.

Homegrown

I bought takeout for the family this week. It was delicious as always.

Pei Wei

Last nights take out from Pei Wei was way spicier than usual. :( I love the texture of their tofu though. I got the thai coconut curry dish (I think that's what it was called).

Qdoba

I haven't been to Qdoba in awhile, so when I went today for lunch I was excited to learn about their Craft 2 deal. It is kind of like Panera Bread's "You Pick Two" and you get to pick 2 smaller size items to go together from their menu. The options are listed below:

Naked Taco Salad™Naked Burrito®
Two TacosTortilla Soup
Grilled QuesadillaNachos
Mexican Gumbo
I had the vegetarian mexican gumbo and a quesadilla. I felt a little rushed and now looking at the menu I wish I had tried the nachos instead of the quesadilla. The one thing I don't like about Qdoba is how its really hard to read the entire menu while you are standing in line and the server is right in front of you staring you down hurry up to place your order.

Chef's Palette

Tonight we ate at the Chef's Palette in Cary off of ten-ten road. It was pretty good. I had the swet potato crisps with 3 dipping sauces (amazing) and the shrimp salad in half an avocado. I was disappointed that my avocado was brown and mushy. Other than that, I would go back. Its a very nice restaurant and there isn't anything like it nearby.

Description of what I ordered:
Intense Sweet Potato Ribbon Fries - Sweet potato sliced thin, deep fried, and served with three sauces: quatro frommage, carribean spiced honey, and remoulade.

Shrimp Salad Stuffed Avocado- Half an avocado, sliced and topped with a New Orleans style shrimp saladIntense Sweet Potato Ribbon Frie

Farmer's Market

I am home for winter break and today mom, dad, and I ate lunch at the Farmers Market. It was delicious. The best part was how HOT and fresh everything was. The biscuits were one of the best parts but I ate those before my meal even came out. I had a vegetable plate with squash, mashed potatoes, okra, and deviled eggs. Everyone got free banana pudding for dessert that came with the meals!

Amy's No-Chicken Noodle Soup

This soup was very good! It has tofu instead of chicken. I've been looking for something like this for quite some time because I like the taste of chicken noodle soup, I just wanted it with vegetable broth and no chicken. I also had a tuna sandwich on the side.

Pizza

Had some pizza and broccoli for dinner. Its exam time so everyone is studying. Am I weird because I'm a little jealous I don't have anything to hardcore study for? I mean I do have to study for EOH tomorrow, but I kind of like that feeling when you just sit in the library and cram all day. Its like getting in the studying zone.

Murphy's

ROASTED MUSHROOMS Logan Turnpike grits, poached farm egg, sherry vinegar

This dish was very rich. The grits were delicious and I did eat the poached egg although I am not used to the runny insides. I love sauteed mushrooms and hadn't had them in a long time.

CRISPY GOAT CHEESE SALAD spinach, frisse, spiced walnuts, grilled pear vinaigrette

This salad was my favorite dish that I had tonight. The combination of the warm fried goat cheese with the walnuts, pears, and spinach was delicous and unique.

VANILLA BEAN CREME BRULEE shortbread cookies

I have been very into creme brulee lately. I love the sugared top that reminds me of ice cracking on a pond when you dig into it. I almost forgot about the two little cookies on the side, so they were a nice treat to end with.

Alphabet Soup

At home it is snowing, but here it's just gloomy. I decided it was an Alphabet soup day. This is an Amy's Brand soup. I had the chili of the same brand the other day and both were very good. I have had trouble with Amy's entrees being very bland, but I didn't have to add anything to either of my soups for flavor. I also have a Thai coconut Amy's soup to try so I am hoping it will be delicious like the kind I always get at Thai restaurants.

Tonight I'm going to Murphy's. It seems like that's the place I always go, but it is so good. I'm going to try something new tonight so I will post later.

Cox Food Court

Today I got to school, it was raining, I forgot my umbrella, all the pizza was sold out in the lobby, and I had no lunch because I haven't been grocery shopping since I got back from home. I decided to walk to the Cox Hall Food Court in the rain because I was so hungry. I ended up getting a burrito from the Mexican place there (I already can't remember what it's called). It was really good. Emory has such a great food court, I wish I had the opportunity to eat there more often. You also get 10% off if you dine in and use a sustainable plate instead of plastic/styrofoam!

Thanksgiving

I have been at home for almost a week for Thanksgiving break and will fly back to Atlanta tomorrow. I had a great time at home with family and went to Roanoke Rapids for Thanksgiving Day. I'm posting a picture of the great food we had as a family!
Now I have to go to sleep early so I can wake up for my flight. Then it's just 1.5 more weeks of papers, presentations, and exams before I can come back home!

Pierogies

Last night I had cheddar pierogies with broccoli and Welch's sparkling grape juice. I bought the sparking grape juice to be festive for the holidays and drank it all in one day (oops!).

Top Spice

Last night I went to Top Spice in Toco Hills with Cassandra and Whitney. It was packed with several huge groups of atleast 20. Despite all that, our wait was only about 5-10 minutes and the service was great. The food was also as delicious as always. I got the pad thai (what I always get). Sometimes I get the soup in addition, but I skipped that last night. I wasn't incredibly hungry so I brought half of my meal home to have for lunch today with some broccoli on the side.

Sorry!

This has been a slow post week, more to come next week. Catching up on past fun meals out and lots of free dinners/lunchs at school!

Sushi Avenu & Murphy's

Last night Whitney and I ate dinner at Sushi Avenue in Decatur and then went over to Murphy's in Virginia Highlands for dessert.

At Sushi Avenue I had the cucumber salad and the spicy crunchy shrimp roll. The cucumber salad had an amazing dipping sauce, but I was hoping it would have something other that just a ton of cucumbers with it. The sushi roll I had was pretty good for $6.50. I really wanted the double shrimp roll, but at $12 I decided against it. I also ordered some miso soup that was never brought out, and I'm glad because I was full on just the other two orders. http://sushiavenuedecatur.com/

At Murphy's Whitney and I shared the dessert trio. It was amazing!
It had the Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta (interesting texture, but good vanilla taste), the Tollhouse pie with dark & white chocolate cookie batter, oreo crust, and vanilla icecream, as well as the Bonzo, with a fudge browne, cheesecake, dark chocolate mousse, and whipped cream.

My favorite was the Bonzo for sure! I loved the dark chocolate mousse.

Flip Burger

Last weekend Cassandra and I went to see the Atlanta Ballet's performance of Moulin Rouge. Afterwards, we had an early dinner at Flip Burger.

The Pineapple Upsidedown Shake IS THE BEST MILKSHAKE I HAVE EVER HAD! It had cake in the bottom of it and was amazing. I absolutely loved it.

Cassandra has the S'mores shake. They also have a Krispy Kreme shake that neither of us have tried but is intriguing.

I was really hungry so I ordered a small caesar salad, we shared fries, and I got the bacon cheeseburger. Cassandra had some type of barbeque brisket burger that was actually the brisket on TOP of a burger. We thought it would just be barbecue. I forgot to take a picture of my burger which is a shame, but I ended up not eating a lot of the burger part. I get weird about burgers sometimes, and when Cassandra told me that it was okay to eat it cooked medium there because it only came from one cow...I started to get grossed out. Cassandra works in food-borne illnesses so she is used to talking about it, but I don't like to think about what number of cows made up my burger! haha. http://www.flipburgerboutique.com/

Tonight I went to Cocktails and Canvas with Cassandra and Cassie. I ended up being very happy with the result of my painting! http://www.creativelyyoursinc.com/

Farmstead 303

Last night Ana, Cassandra, and I used a Scoutmob coupon to eat at Farmstead 303. It was a nice Halloween meal. I had the vegetable plate. It was delicious. My favorite part was the squash casserole. I also liked how the green beans were crunchy.

My only complaint was the service. Our waiter forgot to bring our rolls and responded "You still want them?" when I reminded him almost at the end of our meal. When we got a cold piece of cornbread I realized it was because they had run out of biscuits and fresh cornbread. Not so great for 7:30pm. It was Halloween and not very crowded, but I had read reviews of bad service so I am not too forgiving. 50% off with the Scoutmob was nice though. http://farmstead303.squarespace.com/

Zesto

Today I had to do a walkability assessment in Little Five Points for my Macro-Social Determinants of Health class. It was beautiful weather and lots of people were out and about for Halloween. I decided to stop at Zesto on my walk back to my car and get an icecream cone. Of course icecream always makes me thirsty so I got a coke too. And it had crushed ice! Yum.

Happy Halloween!

Iberian Pig

I had been looking forward to going to the Iberian Pig for so long and we finally went last night for Whitney's birthday! I had the Iberian burger and it was delicious! The eggplant fries were so original. I had to give some of them away because I don't like fried things that much. I noticed that some of the small plates were ridiculously small. This is not a sharing tapas place! Next time I'd like to try the mushroom flatbread. It is 15 inches so atleast that can be shared. I wish the restaurant gave more warning on what was big vs. small because its very hard to know ahead of time. http://www.iberianpigatl.com/index.php.

Wonderful World of Burgers

I decided to try this place today since it is right near campus in Emory Village and I always drive past it. I ordered a chop chop salad and a veggie burger. The salad had a delicious spicy ginger dressing and I really enjoyed it. The veggie burger was a disaster. It was FRIED and reminded me of corn bread from the state fair and falafel mixed together. Gross.

Shiki Sushi

This post is old, but it is from when I went to Shiki sushi at home over break! It wasn't as good as the last time and that's because I forgot to order the Wasabi roll. I had the shiki crunch and the sear-sea roll (which was a little too fishy with the seared tuna).

Cafe Sage Hill

Not much to say about this. $5 and pretty good. I like how they gave me a TON of macaroni this time. The tomato/okra mixed thing up in the right corner was a little off. And cornbread burnt as usual.

Zaya

After seeing the Dalai Lama (!!!) speak today, Ana and I ate on campus at Zaya, the mediterranean place. (The more casual Emory location of this:http://www.zayarestaurant.com/). It was decent, but I didn't really like the chicken in my chicken shawarma sandwich. I have been there before and I think it is overpriced and not as good in comparison with both greek fiesta and my favorite greek place on hillsborough street from college Jasmin Mediterranean Bistro http://ninashoes.com/neva-powder-sand-luster-satin--14354 (THE BEST PLACE EVER!).

I also realized too late that everything on my plate was yellow....(the wrap, hummus, AND pasta salad). I'm having leftovers for dinner.

thaicoon

I had Thaicoon over the weekend. I got the double shrimp roll instead of my usual. It was kind of small.

Mint2

Yesterday at school our Convos on Tap event had food from Mint2. http://mint2togo.com/ I had been wanting Thai food so I was excited. The salad dressing was delicious. There were two meat dishes and I went with the tofu and vegetable dish with rice. It was cold because it was catered and outside, but otherwise very good. My favorite surprise was the little fried dumpling type things with ground up chicken and curry in it. I liked that we got to try that and spring rolls along with the salad and main course. There seem to be a ton of Thai places here that I like!

McCormick & Schmick's

For Addison's birthday dinner the family ate at McCormick & Schmick's at Crabtree.http://www.mccormickandschmicks.com/. I had the Blue Crab Tower with Avocado, Mango, Orange Vinaigrette and a cup of the Seafood and Roasted Corn Chowder. As a family we shared the Crab and Shrimp Artichoke Dip with Pita Chips appetizer. I found that the pita chips were a bit too covered in cheese when the crab dip itself would have been more than enough. I enjoyed my blue crab tower, but I wanted it to be like the crab and avocado salad at Cellar 56 in Atlanta - and it was not. It was good in itself though! However, I got the idea to order it from the online picture - and it did not include the 2 shrimp on top like on the website! I will post a picture for comparison.

Homegrown

I know that every time I go home we always eat at Homegrown, but it is so good! The rest of the family shared a pizza and I complained because it had sausage on it, but then I ended up picking off the sausage and having a piece. I had some cheese fries (I gave the leftovers to Addison) and a salad whose picture mysteriously disappeared from my phone.

Sushi Blues

wolfpack and crunchy
rainbow

New York New York

Last night I went to Sushi Blues with Addison, Kelly, and Kelly's roommate Judith. Sometimes my sushi is better than other times and last night was amazing! I had the wolfpack and crunchy rolls, Addison had the rainbow roll, and Kelly had the New York New York.

Salem Street Pub

Just got home this afternoon! I flew and the flight was one of the best I've ever had. Zero turbulence. Tonight I went with the family to Salem Street Pub in downtown Apex. I had the Carolina Burger and a salad. It was yummy. Even though the burger had chili on it I decided to get the black bean and rice patty to be partially vegetarian.

Thaicoon

I got Thaicoon tonight to celebrate fall break starting. I tried the cucumber salad for the first time which was really good and my shrimp tempura roll tasted extra fresh and delicious!

Building Dedication Reception

Today was the building dedication for the new building at Rollins. I happened to get out of class early and get to eat some of the tasty food at the reception!
